‘Be not afeard; the isle is full of noises/ Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not’ (The Tempest, Act III, Scene II).
Shakespeare’s plays and sonnets are filled with music of all kinds, from bawdy tavern choruses to sweet lullabies and ballads of love. They have also influenced a host of composers, and in these two concerts Sorelle will bring you a selection of the finest songs and airs inspired by the Bard.

Sorelle are a new all-female operatic group, dedicated to bringing the powerhouse women of opera and theatre to life in new and exciting ways. Women in opera are so often brushed off as lovesick, weak, or sidekicks; the three sopranos who make up Sorelle want to change that. Sorelle was created to revitalise the image of opera's women - queens, heroines, lovers, comediennes - restoring them to their rightful place in the public imagination. Bringing a wealth of performance and production experience, Sorelle gives fresh eyes and youthful voices to many of opera's greatest hits.
From Purcell’s ‘Fairy Queene’ to Britten’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, Sorelle will embark on a journey through the very best of musical tributes to Shakespeare.
