Alan founded the festival, along with the production company 5VP Productions, formed of students from SGS College. In its first year, the students did two shows in rep, and ran the rest of the festival. In the festival's second year, after Alan's departure from Stroud, the college returned with a production of Macbeth under their new tutor, Stuart Chapman, and a new name - SPACE Productions.
